My Favorite Concerts

Posted in Arts and Celebrity By admin on March 3rd, 2008 No Comments

#1 THE WHO DETROIT 1989 - Went with 21 friends, and had the best concert seats ever. Row 15, center stage. Stood on my chair the entire time. Blew out my ears listening to the World’s Loudest Band. It was the quintessential teenage night. So sick from heat exhaustion and my ears rang for 2 days afterwards … the hearing loss was worth it!!!

#2 PAUL MCCARTNEY CONCERT DETROIT 2002 - I friggin’ love The Beatles. I took my mom to see this show, and we actually saw Paul as he pulled in to the Palace. He rolled the window down and waved right to us … 5 feet away. Music is about the only thing my mother and I have in common and it was a nice moment to give her this chance to see a Beatle perform, as her step-father ripped up her 1964 ticket to see them in L.A. OMG, who does that to aa person?

# 3 RUSH CONCERT - ILLINOIS 1991 - I saw Rush the most in concert - 5 times in 7 years in the 90’s. Such a great band. What I remember about this concert was getting busted by police trying to break into their tour van (They let us off) and finding the hotel they stayed at, and banging on the door of their hotel room (Which of course they did not answer.) Just knowing we were so close to greatness was wonderful.

#4 VAN HALEN CONCERT DETROIT 2007 - My 2nd worst concert seats ever, but it didn’t matter. I was on vacation when I decided I HAD to go see Eddie play sober. I’ve seen Van Halen twice before, but I knew something magical was going to happen this tour. I spend an hour begging friends to come with me, and thanks to my wonderful husband, we bought my gal Becky a ticket and we were on our way. Like i’ve mentioned before, I saw grown men cry during Eddie’s solo’s. That image will forever be with me. Great show, just wish Michael Anthony could have been there as well.

#5 ERIC CLAPTON CONCERT, DETROIT (EASTER SUNDAY) 1990- Yep, i got to see God on Easter. OMG, Eric Clapton really is a genius. I think this was the first concert I saw at the newly opened Palace, and I loved every minute of it. It was rough driving back to Michigan State that night after the show, but it was worth it…

#6 THE POLICE CONCERT DETROIT 2007 - The Police and I go way back to 6th grade. My first album and cd I ever purchased was by them, and I used to carry around a Police folder in school. I even worked with a girl from England who used to drink in Sting’s brother’s pub, and thought I had a real conncetion to the band. Who else wrote lyrics like Sting? He’s brilliant! The Police had a great energy that night, and I’m so glad I got to enjoy my 1st wedding anniversary (Paper) present with this classic band.

#7 AC/DC CONCERT DETROIT1988 - Just another great concert from my youth where I was young and invincible. I remember saying “what the hell” and cutting in line in front of 50 rocker chics for the bathroom while dressed in my most preppiest outfit. Thankfully I didn’t get shanked, but I really had to pee. Anyhoo, the music and the energy from this concert was great, and I was glad to have been there, settling the great high school debate that yes indeed Eddie was better than Angus.

#8 VAN HALEN CONCERT DETROIT 1986 - My first date concert, my first Van Halen concert, and the worst seats I’ve ever sat at for any concert. To this day I am still disappointed that I never got tickets to see Van Halen in 1984 (I was 13, it’s a little hard to score tickets at that age) and this was my make-up show. Sammy had a great energy, and was one of my favorites before joining Van Hagar, but it wasn’t the same. The show was still fantastic, though …

# 9 BRYAN ADAMS CONCERT DETROIT 1985 - My first concert wih a girlfriend. Debi’s mom and her buddyJohn took us girls to see this show, and i was introduced to the area concert. OMG, I was instantly in love. this was the beginning of my 18 month daily jam session to the infamous tape “So Far So Good.” Every teenage girl needs a little Bryan Adams in her life.

#10 JULIAN LENNON CONCERT DETROIT 1985 - MY FIRST CONCERT EVER. I won these tickets off WHYT on a rotary phone. My mom, my cousin Patty who looked like Joan Jett and her pal all went to a bar in Detroit and drank (Yep, I got to have a drink) before this show. Sure, I may have been 14, but I felt 18. We were all huge John Lennon fans and just pretended that John was still with us and plauing n stage. Perhaps Julian wasn’t his father, but I enjoyed my first night ever in the big city of Detroit.
